I still think the Industrial Revolution would've happened without the Enlightenment, but this book is just brilliant in the way that it paints a detailed picture of Britain during the period. Excellent book. I read this in conjunction with Phillipson's biography of Adam Smith. This combination will bring into focus the great changes that were emerging at the time.
